The Adirondack house is a live/ work space for an artist. The design is generated from notions of memory, manipulation, and discovery. The house is composed of four volumes each appearing similarly from a determined view point, but upon experiencing the space each volume reveals its own, unique qualities. This dual nature of each volume was achieved through a process of massing, photographing, and re-massing from the collapsed perspective of the photograph resulting in the distortion inherent in the translation from 3d to 2d and back again. Thusly the house becomes a catalogue of its own memory in the same way the artist’s work is a glimpse into his/her past thoughts. The Adirondack House also is designed to confront extreme environmental factors such as a steeply sloped site and the need to control natural light in both the winter and summer.
